Adnan Mahmutović

Stockholm University


Adnan Mahmutović is a Bosnian-Swedish writer and Associate Professor in English Literature at Stockholm University, Sweden. He became a refugee of war as a teenager in the 1990s and ended up in Sweden. He worked for 13 years as a care assistant for people with brain damage and studied English and philosophy. He wrote his first novel Thinner than a Hair (2010) while working on his PhD. He also holds an MFA in creative writing from Hong Kong. He is one of the founders of a global Transnational creatives project and Chief Editor of the international journal Two Thirds North (since 2012). His other creative works includes How to Fare Well and Stay Fair (2012) and At the Feet of Mothers (2020). He has a volume on creative writing pedagogy Craft of Editing (2018). His academic work mainly deals with postcolonial, world literature, and comics studies: Ways of Being Free (2012), Visions of the Future in Comics (2017), and Claiming Space (2021).
